SomatYin is a beautiful combination of a Somatic Movement and the quiet practice of Yin Yoga. We start the class with a sensory inventory; we take time to notice how we’re breathing and feeling throughout our body with regard to our muscles. Then we focus on a muscle group such as the hips, low back, or shoulders. We’ll do a Somatic movement to release and lengthen the muscles in that area. Next, we choose a Yin posture to further stretch the fascia and connective tissue that surrounds that muscle. After the Yin posture, we rest to integrate and sense how we’re feeling in that area. From there, we move to another area of the body and continue the same process; Somatic movement followed by Yin. Because some of the Yin postures are restorative, we use blocks or a bolster to support the body. Make sure you have a couple of blocks to assist you in the class. With SomaYin, you can relax tight muscles and gently stretch the fascia and connective tissue. It’s also calming for our mind and nervous system. Come explore SomaYin, you’ll feel sooooo good!
